1988 - In the news 25 years ago: After surveying the conditions of sidewalks throughout Etowah, State Planner Paul Harris told the Regional Planning Commission that of the 13 miles of walkways spanning the city, about 7,000 feet need to be replaced. \"Etowah is indeed fortunate that good concrete sidewalks were provided initially when the city was laid in 1906 by the L&N Land Co.,\" Harris said. The older areas of the city are, as a whole, well served by sidewalks, however, newer additions north of First Street have few sidewalks.
