1988 - In the news 25 years ago: The McMinn County Courts\' Community Service Program, which had been plagued with problems, was beginning to pull out of its slump and make progress, program officials said. Community service, an alternative sentencing program designed to relieve jail overcrowding by allowing individuals convicted of minor offenses to serve the community instead of time in jail, recorded its highest work output ever that August with 262 man days of work performed. The most work performed in a month was 120 man days and the average was only 70-80 man days per month.
