Yesterday in Etowah: A look back at local life in 1951
In January, what was once Center and Powell Hardware changed its name to Harper\'s by the owner, Mr. J.D. Harper. Tommy Ivins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Ivins, was given honorable mention in the 16th National Children\'s Photo Contest sponsored by Miller Brothers Studio in Chattanooga. The Etowah High School Class of 1946 held a reunion at the Chilhowee Steak House. Dr. W. Theodore Brown announced the opening of his dental practice in the Cantrell Bank Building in Downtown. It was by appointment only, except Saturday. The Etowah High School basketball team bested McMinn County by a 40-38 score. Starters for Etowah were Patrick, Wolfe, Gaston, Bivens and Bookout. Hampton and Trotter gave great efforts also for EHS.
