Car lands in creek
Photos by Scott Power
A car landed upside down in Oostanaula Creek on South White Street early Monday morning after it was struck in the side by another vehicle. At around 6 a.m., according to Athens Police Department Patrol Officer Tony Byers, a white Saturn failed to yield as it turned on to Green Street from South White Street. The car was then struck and sent into the creek where it landed upside down with only about two to three feet of the vehicle above the water. Two people were in the car at the time, a male, who Byers pulled through the rear driver\'s side window, and the female driver who escaped the car after the front passenger door was taken off. The only injury Byers reported was a laceration to the driver of the Saturn; she was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center for treatment.
